The Team
Yung Shing Le Shadow Puppet Theatre Troupe officially registered in 1978, but the history of their performance is over one century. The troupe is one of the few traditional shadow puppet theatres that are rare survival in Taiwan.
Yung Shing Le Shadow Puppet Theatre Troupe is a family theatre; succeed to the fourth generation now. Hsing-kuo Chang and Ying-Chiao Chang, son and daughter of Sui Chang, are the one who take over the family business. Hsing-Kuo Chang is not only a puppeteer but also a musician. He plays string instruments, carves shadow puppets, as well as writes plays. In the light of preserving traditional shadow puppet culture, Yung Shing Le Shadow Puppet Theatre Troupe not just keep traditional music in back court, but also timely accede to modern originality, colorful puppets, and neo-lighting effect, to animate the ole performance art. Their performances center in southern Taiwan, mostly temple fairs. For promoting shadow puppet art, the troupe is also devoted to enact and teach on campuses.
Although motion pictures and videos progressively replace traditional shadow puppet art, Yung Shing Le Shadow Puppet Theatre Troupe hopes to reproduce shadow shows to modern audiences and bring back the old memory.
