 Introduction

In all type of music, percussion is one kind with the least boundary. This percussion concert “Percussion Laboratory!!” produced by Forum Music combines music and drama. We try to introduce percussion to the audience, especially to parents and children, in a brand-new way. At the same time, we would also introduce musical pieces written by domestic and overseas contemporary composers. We hope to increase modern music’s popularity in Taiwan with a spirit to enrich the basis of art education here.

Percussion Laboratory! is a story-based concert we elaborately planed. The tone is light. The repertoire mainly includes typical opus for percussion and Taiwan folk rhymes. The performers are outstanding young percussionists, who teach in campus, too.

Besides listening to interesting music, there would be a host to introduce the family of musical instruments. We will also show parents several magical tricks to have their own “kitchen concert” at home with pots, bowls, ladles and plates.

The songs become the storyline. Notes transform to colorful pictures under our host’s telling. This concert is definitely the one every family can enjoy!

The Team

Forum  Percussion Ensemble has been frequently invited to perform both locally and internationally. When invited to perform at the Taipei Theatre in New York in 1996, the group was hailed by the New York Times as “….hautingly graceful and emotionally searing; virtuosic and texturally invigorating”. In 2002, Forum Percussion Ensemble was responsible for the musical production in Snow in August, the three acts opera based on the libretto by the Nobel Prize Laureate in Literature of 2000, Gao Xingjian.

Forum Percussion Ensemble prides itself on the adventurous programming which consistently includes contemporary experimental pieces and the premieres of domestic composers. In addition to the annual concert at the National Concert Hall and other regular performances, Forum Percussion Ensemble also organizes numerous concerts with most pieces of a lighter nature as the group’s commitment to promoting the art of percussion music.
