Introduction

圖說

A door opens. Like Alice, you step through the looking glass.
Tick-tock... One by one, children enter Time. Step by step, they discover the wonders, both large and small, that Time has patiently crafted to make our world.
Tick-tock... At the end of the passageway, the children find a little theatre. But who is this funny bird, waiting for them under a starry sky? Like a mechanic, he turns the wheels of Time. Like a magician, he opens windows onto the changing seasons. And as a musician, he lets the Universe be heard and reveals some of its secrets. For, if you’ve never been a scarecrow, you haven’t really experienced the autumn wind. If you’ve never slept under the stars, you don’t know that they can turn into diamonds. And if you’ve never entered a cuckoo clock, you have no idea what a party goes on when the hour has rung and the little cuckoo’s door has closed!

About Le Théâtre des Confettis  圖說  www.theatredesconfettis.ca

The Théâtre des Confettis, founded in Québec city in 1977, grew out of an artistic partnership between two actresses, Hélène Blanchard and Judith Savard, and a stage designer, Réal Sasseville. To date the company has created twenty-three shows. Eight of them have been translated and presented in English, three have been put on by other Canadian companies and seven have been published as texts.

Approach
From the time of its founding, the Théâtre des Confettis has always placed children at the centre of its work, inspired by their enjoyment of subversion, imaginary worlds and poetry, their appreciation of nonsense and tenderness, their openness and intensity, their laughter and tears, and their fresh, curious and vigilant gaze. Childhood, seen in a non-condescending, nonpatronizing way, is a constant reference point and focus at each stage of the creative process. Although certain threads may run through the company’s productions, its artistic approach is neither linear nor tied to any exclusive or specific creative process. The company’s personality is expressed in many different ways – by enabling new encounters or confirming affinities, responding to flights of fancy or realizing old dreams, creating something in the heat of the moment or slowly over time, reaching audiences at home or further afield…

Opening new horizons
In seeking artistic collaboration, the Théâtre des Confettis knows no geographical or artistic boundaries. The company’s work may involve artists from other places and sometimes even from other disciplines, artists with long experience or just starting out, and artists well-known in children’s theatre or generally associated with adult theatre. This collaboration with playwrights, designers and actors from a wide range of backgrounds has enabled the company to develop and explore new avenues in the world of young people’s theatre.

On many stages, here and elsewhere
From 1977 to the present, numerous tours have been undertaken – in North America (Canada and the U.S.A.), Europe (England, France, Ireland, Switzerland and Germany) and Asia (Hong Kong and Japan). In the course of these tours, the Théâtre des Confettis has taken part in over thirty international festivals.

The team
The present team at the Théâtre des Confettis is formed by Hélène Blanchard and Judith Savard, general and artistic co-directors, Marie Blanchard, administrative director, and Chantale Coulombe, director of diffusion and communications.
